Faith as a Foundation

Faith is far different from logic. Sometimes, the next move spiritually doesn’t make sense in the context of our current circumstances. But, the outcome of that next step? Oh, Dear Child, let me tell you.

God delights in revealing to us His majesty and grandeur! When we prove to Him we’re relying on His power, and not our own, that’s when we clear the path for Him to take us places we never thought we’d go.

Things aren’t always black and white in life, but when you believe that God’s word is inerrant, there’s always a place to turn. And, here’s the best part: When you turn to scripture, you’re automatically demonstrating the posture of your heart. Opening the Bible lets God know you submit to His wisdom and authority, and recognize Him as supreme ruler, the place where answers are found, even if not in this lifetime. When God finds a place in your heart, He can begin to do His work.

This doesn’t mean it’s going to be easy. Sometimes you’ll find just the answer you were searching for. Sometimes you’ll just find peace in your circumstances. Always, though, you’ll be given a greater intimacy with the One who knows you most and loves you best. When you have that, chaos and drama diminish. Life still happens, but your reactions change.

If you are just starting out, take that first step. God is there waiting! All you have to do is acknowledge He is holy. And, the only way sinners like us can be in the presence of a perfect, holy God is by the saving grace He provided through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Faith doesn’t always look like it makes sense, but it will definitely lead you places you never thought you’d go.

Imagine all your friends grew up playing golf, and you were just learning golf was even a sport. I felt so excited to learn, but so far behind.

So I prayed.

I prayed God would assist and accelerate my understanding of His word, and that I would know Him in ways I was just learning were possible. That one simple prayer changed everything. Doors opened to meaningful networks, and my own personal study became so rich.

I think when you pray those kinds of prayers – right in the moment, and as simple and real as possible – God always meets you exactly where you are and puts you on the path that’s been waiting for you all along. Today, my faith is my foundation.

Bible Study

When I first started studying scripture, I committed myself to the time in the same way I would a dentist appointment. I picked a favorite chair in the house, and if I didn’t show up and sit in that chair to study expectantly, then it was even more disrespectful to God than it would be if I didn’t show up to the dentist. It’s about submitting our posture and our agenda to God in a way that shows reverence. God doesn’t care which chair I sit in, or what time I study, as long as my heart recognizes His perfection and His authority. He already knows us intimately, and He longs for us to know how awesome He is. That’s why He left us His inspired word through scripture in the first place.
